The Digital Humanities Research Institute (DHRI) South Bend is a core skills training workshop for faculty, staff, graduate students, undergraduate students of Michiana and the broader region. The University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College originally collaborated on the institute, based on a model developed by CUNY. The original institute, delivered in 2019, was generously supported by both local institutions, as well as by Indiana Humanities, and ultimately included participants and instructors from eight institutions besides ND and SMC.

Since that time, Indiana Humanities have helped boost efforts into a broader “Indiana DHRI.” The plan is to make DHRI South Bend one of several nodes in a traveling institute, in which all area universities could send applicants for participation. Purdue has agreed to host Indiana DHRI 2020, and tentative plans are to rotate the DHRI back to South Bend in 2022. All interested Michiana faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to apply for the other Indiana institutes in the meantime. Information about those institutes will be made available on the DHRI South Bend site.
