Rebooting with a “mini” DHRI

It has now been three years since we posted, with high hopes for a Purdue-based DHRI in 2020. Covid, unfortunately, skuttled those plans and put many of us in triage service mode. Much has changed since then, and we are ready to jumpstart our training institute for core digital humanities skills. We are excited to announce a 2 day “mini” DHRI on July 26-27 at the University of Notre Dame. Details on scheduling, signing up, and curriculum will be forthcoming.

“Indiana DHRI” and the next institute

The 2019 DHRI was an invigorating experience for the instructors and, we hope, for participants. Since that time, nearly 10 months ago now, there has been much discussion about the future of the South Bend DHRI. Sarah and I (Dan) have been in multiple conversations with Indiana Humanities about possible collaborations in this effort, and during winter 2019-2020, representatives of several Indiana colleges and universities expressed interest in developing a regional DHRI. Such an effort would expand our constituents’ DH network and would spread the effort of the DHRI across many more participants.

To that end, we are happy to report that Purdue University, under the leadership of 2019 South Bend DHRI participant Matthew Hannah and Trevor Burrows, have agreed to host the 2020 “Indiana DHRI.” It will take place May 27-29, and everyone in the wider region is encouraged to apply (details and application available here).

Meanwhile, Sarah and I anticipate the Indiana DHRI swinging back around to South Bend in, perhaps, 2022. This collaborative effort is still a work in progress, but we are hopeful more good things will come. For questions about this year’s institute, or about local South Bend DH efforts, please feel free to contact Sarah or me.
